Scottish Learning Disability Week is a time to celebrate people with learning disabilities.

It’s about making Scotland a fairer place, where people with learning disabilities are respected, included and have equal opportunities in all areas of life.

This week helps people understand the achievements and talents of people with learning disabilities. It also raises awareness about the challenges they face every day.

What does “to be seen” mean?

People with learning disabilities often feel they are not seen.

Not being seen:

• People talk about you instead of to you
• Your ideas are ignored
• You are left out
• Other people make decisions for you

This year, we are not just saying ‘I am here.’ We are saying ‘I am here… to be seen!’

Being seen means:

• People listen to you
• People include you
• People value your strengths
• People respect your choices
• People see who you really are
